Tokyo Night Bus Guide

The night bus (“yakko basu” or “shinya basu”) is a common way to travel to and from Tokyo used by travelers throughout rural Japan. It is quite a long distance from Tohoku (Northern Japan) to Tokyo, so many travelers find it more convenient to travel through the night in order to free up their days for sightseeing and/or business.

The night bus leaves Rikuzentakata at 9:51 PM and arrives at Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo at 5:39 AM on the following day.

Rules:

Tickets are to be handed to the driver at time of boarding. If a ticket has been lost or forgotten, a new one-way ticket must be purchased at the time of boarding.

The bus will leave at exactly the time specified in the time schedule. In the event that one misses the departure time of his scheduled bus, the ticket is now void and cannot be applied to a departure on a different day.

There is no smoking allowed in the bus.

We do not accept responsibility for lost or damaged goods. If you have valuables in your luggage, you may want to carry those valuables on your person for the duration of the bus ride.

We cannot accommodate for large equipment such as skis, golf clubs, skateboards, etc.

Arrival time depends on the daily weather and road conditions, so there are occasions when the bus may be late. In the winter, the bus will often have to drive more slowly due to falling snow or icy road conditions. Traffic, accidents, and inclement weather are also a possibility; however, no refunds will be given in the event of late arrival. We also cannot accept any responsibility for damages incurred by missing connecting transportation or lodging arrangements.
